The session will help stakeholders learn about the frontier of marine geographic information. It also will be of interest to scientists and researchers working within Polar environments and with Earth Observations who wish to enhance their contributions through instrumentation, technical, and educational initiatives to the world's cold region environments. Geospatial science is fundamental to the understanding of the vast oceans and Polar Regions. Key technologies and applications of marine and polar geographic information will be presented as well as a review of best practices and case studies related to acquiring, analyzing, and managing the marine geospatial data. Discussions are included on how climate change occurring in the Polar Regions is having a significant impact on maritime navigation, exploration and exploitation, environmental stress and human society globally. It will also seek to demonstrate the present limitations, challenges and opportunities for Earth Observation science and technology to make a more effective contribution to sustained data and information acquisition.
